Winter/Spring 2008 Newsletter!
|
| Greetings, Friends -what a busy winter we’ve had -I’d started this note so long ago…and now it’s nearly Spring…some of the following may seem like old news.
Our thanks to all of you who visited our very busy booth; your kind words and compliments really make our day. If we didn’t get a chance to chat, our apologies, and please drop us a line about anything that interested you… We also had continued strong support for Afro Celotto, Martin Rosol, and Jeff Wallin as well. Liz Mears made quite an impression with two strong bodies of work: Bundles and Books. On February 8, we introduced another fantastic artist to the US, Daniela Turrin. She’s highly decorated in her native Australia, and we’re confident you’ll love her painterly cast panels, which exhibit great depths of shadow and light. Daniela doesn’t make a lot of work; we have 1 panel remaining in stock, with plans to receive only 3 or 4 more for the year –basically her entire production.
Also opening on the 8th, was "Exposure", a look at some emerging (and re-emerging) talent. Featured artists include Alex Fekete, with his ethereal and graceful eroded forms; Slate Grove, who interprets relics from the tribal Maori culture; Eoin Breadon, who also investigates the artifact, but from his Celtic roots; Devin Burgess, with contemporary, architectural riffs on traditional vessels; and Sean O’Neill, whose reductivist platters are the most painterly of the group. The exhibition is selling well, but choice pieces remain, and a couple new works are being rotated in to replace those sold.. For those of you who are fans of Jeff Wallin’s kiln-formed drawings or Etsuko Ichikawa’s pyrographs, our sister gallery, Function + Art is currently hosting a joint exhibition, “Vestiges”. We’ll still feature Jeff’s work at PRISM going forward, but thought it a nice chance to include his charcoal drawings and glass panels in one show.
Of course,
we’re continually working to bring you the freshest, most dynamic
and/or hard-to-find artists working in glass. New artists and inventory
include Alessandro
Casson (Venice), Oliver Lesso (Slovak
Republic), Milos Balgavy (Slovak Republic) and the
team of Miroslaw
Stankiewicz and
Rafal Galazka (Poland). Scott & Amy
