HENRY
HILLMAN, JR.
ABOUT
HENRY
Cast glass, steel, and granite are the materials from which Henry Hillman,
Jr creates his sculptures. In his work, he has embraced a minimalist approach
to the overall aesthetics without sacrificing the complexity of the material
and process. He has successfully achieved a balance between architecture,
craft, construction, and fine art. Henry has been working with glass since
1982. He owns his own glass studio in Portland, OR , where he renders
the work initially as 2-dimensional, intricate works on paper. From these
drawings, Henry resolves proportion, dimension, scale, and dynamics before
proceeding with the final creation. A critical element that enhances Hillman’s
sculptures is light. The play of light on rough, yet polished glass, reinforce
the artist’s interest in motion, mystery and color. Mr. Hillman
has also forayed into the world of photography. His photographic array
is included in numerous collections nationwide.
